An All-Around Amazing Day

My condition yesterday (hungover) came back to haunt me a bit. I was still in the same clothes as the night before. And yet, there I was: A man trying to pitch a pilot for Discovery Channel, the Travel Channel, or even the History Channel. A surreal day indeed.
We are staying with a friend, Laurie McGuckin, in San Francisco. (I stayed with her brother Danny in Colorado. Small world, huh?) Laurie is a two-time Emmy-winning television producer. The previous evening, we were just going over our story on the road, and I blurted out, "I want to be the next Mike Rowe." He is the host of the Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" and is the voice for Discovery’s "The Deadliest Catch." Mike is from Maryland and now lives here in San Francisco. He's a laid back guy and I just enjoy his stuff. That simple statement planted a seed in Laurie's head. The next morning, she found herself with a cameraman and a canceled shoot. She put two and two together and came up with.. Jeremy and me.

Apparently, our plight is something novel and Laurie thought we could make a good show. The premise is simple: two unemployed idiots, seeing the country in an old beat up truck. We spouted our very limited knowledge of the city and did some man-on-the-street interviews. They knew I was in the same clothes I had on yesterday, but wouldn't let me change due to the "authenticity" issue.
I have a face for radio, not TV. But there we were, smiling and jiving. Holy shit! She thinks we're good and is going to pitch this thing soon.. After much editing, I'm sure. (Putting a microphone on me is rarely a good idea.)

I’m having some coffee near the famous Fisherman's Wharf reflecting on a day I will never forget. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Who knows? I could actually get a job seeing the world, but if nothing ever comes of it, what an all-around amazing day. Thank you so much Laurie.
As for the trip, we are still in "Hank," the 1980 Toyota, and I just got word that the claim on the Jeep was denied. I smell an appeal and lawsuit. I'm not sure they realize just how time I have on my hands. I have a feeling they will step up and do the right thing. For now, we will enjoy this great day and see what else comes up.
