Dolphins Have Sex for Fun

When they do dive, they are usually hunting and can hold their breath for up to eight minutes. They will dine on local fish which they swallow whole. Their sharp teeth are mainly weapons for the hunt, as is their sonar which can be used to stun prey. Like a cat, dolphins enjoy playing with their prey before eating.

There are two reasons for seeing groups of dolphins. The most common is that they are sleeping. Dolphins will line up in groups of three or more and swim along as they sleep. in actuality, they're simply resting half their brain. The other half remains alert enough to keep moving, come up for air and look out for predators. After some time, they alternate to the other side of their brain.

The other reason is for pleasure. Yes, like humans, dolphins will have sex for fun. Also like (many) humans, they do it face to face. Unlike humans, they have no hands to anchor their slippery bodies. So, they tend to have sex in threes. The two that do it and a third to be that much-needed anchor.

They're not very loyal to they're mates. They are however very loyal parents to their children. Mothers can be quite protective of their babies. Females are pregnant for a year and will actually employ another female to act as midwife, ensuring a safe birth by aiding the mom and looking out for any attacks.
