Fall New Jersey RV Show

Curiosity had me take a peek inside the larger Navion model. This is more of a standard Class B. Plenty of room, flexibility and it sleeps up to six. My problem with this one is it's just a little too big. My idea of having a vehicle that I can simply jump in and drive/park anywhere simply doesn't fit the Navion. Still, it's a nice vehicle and at $84k, it's not a bad price.

Lunch was an overpriced, heat-lamp-heated cheeseburger, chips and a Dr. Pepper in a makeshift cafeteria. It gave me a chance to gather some notes and a new batch of questions regarding that most hated of new buzzwords: Green.

All three vehicles are diesel with relatively impressive MPG ratings. They can also support that bio-concoction which should thrill Willie Nelson. The Airstream has higher capacity batteries than the others. I found this out when I asked about adding solar panels.

Of course any of the vehicles can be equipped with aftermarket kits to run small appliances. The Navion however has the the potential–thanks to more exposed surface area–to support enough solar to run all appliances, including the AC.

Ugh. All this talk of fuel was draining my energy. And that cheeseburger was no help. I needed to refuel. Thanks to the friend I made earlier behind the homemade candy stand, I found my fuel in the form of fresh banana chips. She sneaked in several strips of dried mango into the stash. After a few nibbles, man did I wish there was more. But I digress.

It was soon time to leave so I could gather my notes, which … um … you just read. So what's next? An honest-to-goodness test drive. Only then will I know for sure if any of these vehicles would be right for me.

As for Roadtrek, well … I'd still like to check them out. I'll have to take a trip to the nearest dealership in Souderton, PA (over two hours from Hoboken).
